........The history of Corsica dates back to 7000-6000 B.C. - the Pre-Neolithic era where the first traces of humans living in caves on the island were found. Being the 4th largest island in the Mediterranean see Corsica has always been fought for. The island was under Carthaginian rule until 237 B.C when it was taken over by the Roman Republic. It remained that way untill AD 430 where domination was taken over by the Vandals, later the Byzantine Empire, Arabs, Lombards and the Genoa who finally sold the island to France in 1768 under whose rule it remains to date.
........Corsica is also the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, who was born in the islands capital - Ajaccio in 1769. Tourism now plays a major role in the Corsican economy. The islands natural beauty such as the climat, the coastline, its mountains as well as its culture is unspoiled by tourism and all visitors can be assured they will have an amazing experience.
